Blue Oak, located up the hills in the Coombsville AVA, is one of a trio of wineries owned by the same folks.  If you want to collect the trifecta you need to visit not only Blue Oak but also Aonair and Reverie II.  They’re all really cool wineries to visit.  But Blue Oak has been built up over the years by friends who have been there.  They’re built it up into this cool, exclusive Mecca kind of wine place.

So, we went.  And the wines here are great.  They are just as good as they’ve been worked up to be.  But the interesting thing is that they have just one host, Michael.  Normally, we would not mention any hosts in a post like this, but Michael runs the whole show, and he puts on quite a performance as well.

It isn’t hard to get in to Blue Oak to taste, but they do have limitations on how many parties they can serve at once.  It’s just one guy!  The building where the tastings are offered is an old horse barn.  But it has been fixed up really nicely.  There is a fireplace, lots of inside seating and a dining table where occasionally a chef will entertain a small party of folks.  They have a full kitchen on site.

Outside is one of the coolest deck settings ever.  It overlooks the vineyard, and on an evening, you can watch the sun go down on the Mayacama range in the west.

This is a winery to seek out.  They get Chardonnay and Pinot from Atlas Peak and the rest of their fruit from Coombsville.  It is sort of a wine Mecca.  Michael will make sure you have a classy time.  You’ll be glad you visited.
