Rutherford Hill Winery

Just as you pass Conn Creek Road on Silverado Trail heading north, you’ll see the sign for Rutherford Hill.  As you turn left you pass Rutherford Ranch Winery.  Auberge is on the right as you head up the well paved hill.  And then you come to the huge gate and the welcome sign.

There are a number tasting areas at the winery.  You can taste on the front porch with a view of Napa Valley and the Mayacamas range in the distance.  But you can also do 4×4 tours and wine cave tours.  The caves are remarkable and have a huge capacity for barrel storage.  The tasting area in the cave is really spacious and comfortable.  But the caves have a cool mustiness that follows you into the cave tasting area.

The crew that runs the show here are excellent wine educators.  And they put on a very thorough show.  They know their wines well.  And they have so many wines to show off.  There are 4 merlots, at least 4 cabernets.  We found Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Vermentino, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc on the menu.  And the 2024 Sauv blanc is a Chardonnay wannabe!  It is put through malolactic conversion and is 100% oaked.

It really is a remarkable winery.  It has caves, views, great staff and stunning wines.  It is worth a visit.
