Markham Vineyards

I have two wine tasting pals that I spend a lot of time traveling the byroads of California with.  Steve is my Pinot-head friend.  and David is a co-worker at Mangels Winery.  He’s off mondays — and Mondays are amazing for wine tasting in Napa.  There’s no one there!!  Well, relative to Saturday.

So, David and I tootled up to Markham Vineyards one Monday.  He has been there before and loved their Merlots.  We were one of two parties there on that day.  And as you can see from the images, they can handle more than two tasting parties.  Plus, there is a huge outdoor seating area as well.

I love finding places in Napa that aren’t 200 a bottle and still super rich, concentrated, long finishing wines.  Markham fits that profile perfectly.  Nothing on their flight list was bank breaking.  The only unfortunate thing was that they were between vintages and several things were sold out: Malbec and Cabernet Franc.

But since that day, I went back there and they had far more wine available.  On the second visit we got to try several Merlots, Cabernet Franc (delicious) and a couple Cabs.  It’s a great place to check out.
